KGBL , formally known as Khouri, Guzman, Bunce & Lininger, has delightfully designed five fabulous carrara marble tables. When it comes to originality and contemporary sensibility you cannot miss with a piece of furniture from KGBL (see post.) Once again they have succeeded where others have failed to do so.
I have a hard time picking out which of the tables is my favorite one. So here is the hit parade from KGBL and you will just have to decide on your own which one suits you the best.
#1. I am totally lovesick over the Terranova Coffee Table. I wanna take this baby home with me every time I see a photograph of it! . It is simply one of my absolute favorite coffee tables and I just drool over the chunk of white cararra marble, which basically makes up the entire table. It’s chunkiness is truly très chic!
#2. Please do not rest your eyes too long on the Terranova Table because when you see the DeMarco Dining Table you might just say ” Well, if I can only have one piece of marble furniture in my life it should be this table.” The shape is divine and the mix with the black marble is not only classic but completes the piece perfectly. You do want to join me for dinner when I purchase this lovely lady, right?
#3. Now let’s segue to one of the most fascinating console tables I have ever seen, the Overlin Console. The marble top looks like it is made out of some soft, malleable material and not out of stone. How they carve it over and over again has me completely stumped. This console gives new meaning to the words contemporary design. This stunning console has so much design executed with perfect restraint.
#4. The Zaragosa Coffee Table mixes the luxurious Carrara marble with a base of rustic wood. How clever is the dovetailing of the wood and marble along the top? You can actually sense the melding of the interlocking wood and stone around the edges when you look at it. This is an example of where diverse materials harmonize effortlessly.
#5. For numero 5, I am going to co-join 2 delightful small tables KGBL makes that are actually ‘mini-me’ versions of the larger tables. The DeMarco Occasional Table comes in carrara statuary marble, as well as other selections and is cute as pie! Just the perfect size…18″ diameter by 20″ high…it will sit quite sweetly next to many a contemporary club chair.
There is also the Terranova Side Table which looks just like it’s grown up sister the coffee table, but totally honed down to a diminutive size of 24″ x 16” . It’s got all of the good looks of it’s older sister but just not quite the same attitude. A definite winner in my book.
Hope this little revisit to KGBL proved as interesting to you as it was to me. Hats off to them for creating such out of the box pieces of furniture. That’s the sign of true design-genius!
Ciao, ciao ’til next time!
