SPRING SHOW 2013 REDUX: 5 MORE SUPERSTARS!

I attended the opening of the Spring Show NYC 2013  a few weeks ago and was really excited about some of the dealers that were exhibiting there. Having already interviewed and written about three fabulous dealers that were in the Spring Show NYC in a previous post (see post), I thought I would take a moment to show you all some of the other fabulous finds I encountered at the opening.  As you all know, I am always thrilled to discover something new to share with you… so here you go. Maybe some of these pics will inspire you to think about how you might change your home with just a little antique/ artisan zhazh !

JON ERIC RIIS

JON ERIC RIIS  is an internationally renown contemporary fiber artist and dealer in Asian textiles. The  enchanting Asian inspired pieces created by him are totally hand made!  Although there were  many fascinating pieces I focused on these hand beaded…yes, those are tiny, tiny beads…Chinese inspired jackets with unique contemporary themes integrated into the design.  The detailing and skill of execution is exceptional and must be seen up front and personal to be appreciated. Riis’ work and textile collections are featured in many museums around the world. Look on his web site to see more of his marvelous work.

JEFF R. BRIDGMAN AMERICAN ANTIQUES

JEFF R. BRIDGMAN AMERICAN ANTIQUES:  Jeff Bridgman is an authority on Americana, and on American Flags in particular. His collection of American Flags was mesmerizing and rather impressive to say the least. I had never thought about collecting the flag, but after reading all about him and his vast collection I have a totally new attitude. Love the fact that each and every flag has a story behind it, something that always makes an antique so much more interesting to own.

DOUGLAS DAWSON GALLERY

DOUGLAS DAWSON GALLERY:   This gallery specializes in non-western art from Africa, Asia and the Americas.  They spotlight unusual, antique and symbolic pieces of textiles, ceramics, metalwork and furniture from those parts of the world. The wonderful piece above is an example of the oh so very unique  items to be found at this dealer. Think ethnic and tribal and not sleek and gilded.  Confession: I have a fascination for pieces like this and adore incorporating them into the interiors I do.

BERNARD GOLDBERG FINE ART

BERNARD GOLDBERG FINE ART

BERNARD GOLDBERG FINE ART:  I was particularly intrigued by this painting, but unfortunately do not know the artist. It’s bold and modern in a  20th Century way and I think would be quite interesting hanging on the walls of many a room.  Bernard Goldberg Fine Art carries  many other interesting pieces of art and sculpture and I have added them to my go to list for future projects.

MILORD ANTIQUES

MILORD ANTIQUES

MILORD ANTIQUES: Milord Antiques is owned by the charming Francis Lord and is located in Montreal. I have to say he had some of the most interesting furnishings from the 20th Century at the show….although he does also carry furniture from the 18th and 19th Centuries as you will discover on his web site. The cocktail table above was designed by Paco Rabanne…yes, THAT Paco Rabanne of cologne fame… and it was to die for!  He also had an unusual Laverne cocktail table in a style I had never seen before. You probably remember that Kelvin and Phillip Laverne are on my A list when it comes to contemporary antique furnishings (see post). Plus, take another look at the great painting at the top of the post, which is also from Milford.

Well, that sums it up for today.  Hope you enjoyed this little update from the Show.

GLAMOUROUS INTERIOR DESIGN + RESTAURANT: HARLOW AT THE LOMBARDY HOTEL

A GREAT DESIGN STORY: We all know the Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale about the Ugly Duckling that nobody loves or pays attention to because she is all ‘dirty and brown’…basically no one can see the potential in what she will eventually turn into with care, love and time…the elegant white swan, admired by one and all.
